Am I obliged to pay a subscription?

No, you don’t need a subscription. You’re not bound to anything. Whether you use a car2go often or now and again. You pay only for the number of minutes you use the car.

I want to use car2go. How does it work?

You register once only. You can register online via this website. In order to finalize your registration we ask you to come to our car2go shop. There is a one-time payment of € 9.90. There you will receive your membercard and can drive off directly.

Who can use car2go?

Everyone with a valid driving licence.

What does a car2go cost to use?

You pay only for the number of minutes you use a car2go. The fee is € 0.29 per minute. Everything is included: costs for servicing, cleaning, repairs, energy, insurance, road tax, navigation system and parking. You are also not bound to an expensive subscription. There is a discount fee whilst parking of € 0.09 per minute.

What will you do with my personal data after my registration?

car2go processes and safeguards your personal data with the greatest possible care. For more information about privacy we refer you to the privacy statement.

How do I find the nearest car2go?

You find the nearest car2go via the car2go-app or via the car2go-website.
You therefore do not need to pick up the car at a fixed depot.

What sort of cars does car2go use?

car2go uses smart fortwo electric drive cars. The smart car in the city. You can park it easily because it’s very compact. Still, the car is surprisingly roomy inside. Thanks to the electric engine you drive emission-free and virtually silently through Amsterdam.

What facilities does a car2go offer?

car2go means flexible car use. You pay only for the number of minutes you use the car. Everything is included in the fee. Electricity, parking, service costs, insurance and road tax.
Your car has a handy GPS-navigation system, air conditioning, air bags and an SOS connection for emergencies.

How are the costs paid?

You pay for the number of minutes you use the car. The costs are debited automatically from your account.

What happens if I get a traffic fine?

car2go automatically receives traffic fines via the Centraal Justitieel Incassobureau (CJIB). We discretely inform you in writing about a traffic violation and automatically send an invoice.

Where can I download the car2go-app?

You download car2go-apps via the App Store of Apple or via the Android market.

Do I have to make a reservation beforehand?

You do not need to reserve a car, but it’s possible.
Reserve online by logging in and clicking Reserve. Or use the car2go-app. Reservations can be made up to 15 minutes beforehand.

What is precisely insured?

Your car2go is all-risk insured.

Do I have to clean and charge the car after use?

No, we do that. Our house rules however state that we expect you to leave your car2go tidy.

Where can I drive to in a car2go?

The operating area covers about 80 km2 in Amsterdam. Roughly that is everything within the Ringweg Amsterdam A10 and Arena, IJburg and the Zuidas.

You drive around freely inside the operating area and have unlimited use of all the advantages and guaranteed service offered by car2go. These advantages and the service do not apply outside the operating area. We therefore advise you against using your car2go outside the operating area. You will thus avoid high costs if things go wrong.

How do I know if I have to charge my car2go?

The car is always sufficiently charged when you get in. You can see the exact condition on the meter. The car2go gives you an automatic signal if you have to charge. The navigation system pilots you to the nearest charging station. There are currently about 200 charging stations in the inner city of Amsterdam. There is therefore always a charging station near you. The number will grow to about 1200 in the coming years.

What do I do if I have a breakdown or an accident?

Phone our client service or press SOS on the touchscreen to report an accident. We will send help as quickly as possible. There is a First Aid kit in the boot. You will also find further instructions and tips in there.

Can I take my pet during a drive?

This is not allowed, for your own safety and that of your pet.

Can my children accompany a car2go?

We find safety very important. Therefore, observe the legal regulations if you want to take your children. But take care: you can only use children’s seats if they can be used with an active airbag.

What is car2go?

car2go is a innovative mobility concept in which mobility, sustainability and ease for city folk are at the forefront. In concrete terms this means that at any moment you can use electrically driven cars (smarts fortwo electric drive) on demand. You do not need a subscription. And you do not need to pick up the car from or take it back to a fixed depot.

Your car2go-app on your smartphone tells you where you can find the nearest car. You pay per minute and this includes everything: electricity, service costs, insurance and road tax. You can also park everywhere free of charge.

You move around quickly and comfortably with car2go. And you contribute to a better quality of life in Amsterdam.

In which cities do you find car2go?

In the Netherlands car2go is only available in Amsterdam. Worldwide, the car2go-programme is already successful in Ulm and Hamburg (Germany), Austin (USA) and Vancouver (Canada).
