WHAT IS CAR2GO?

car2go is a completely new mobility concept for getting around town, which allows you to be mobile and independent even without your own automobile.

HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM A RENTAL CAR?

HOW DO I RESERVE A CAR2GO?

You can reserve a car2go online. Normally, within the urban area, the nearest car2go is never further away than a 5 to 10 minute walk. Only during periods of extreme utilization could the distance sometimes be somewhat greater.

WHAT DO I NEED A CAR2GO MEMBER CARD FOR, AND WHERE DO I GET ONE?

You need the member card to unlock car2go vehicles and to lock them again. You will receive it at the official car2go registration point at Liesegangstraße 13 in Düsseldorf once you have registered online. You will find the opening hours here.

HOW ARE THE CAR2GO VEHICLES EQUIPPED?

car2go provides the "car2o edition" with the following equipment:

  • Air conditioning
  • Micro Hybrid Drive (mhd)
  • Automatic with optional semi-automatic transmission
  • ESP
  • ABS
  • Radio
  • Navigation system
  • Telematics device with touch screen
  • Card reader behind the windshield

HOW CAN I REGISTER AS A CAR2GO MEMBER?

You can register here on the Website in the "Registration” section. All you need is your driver’s license details, your chosen method of payment, and a few personal details.

HOW DO I REGISTER MY COMPANY?

You begin by nominating a company administrator for car2go, who will also act as the contact person for car2go. This administrator has to be a private car2go customer and so do all prospective car2go drivers in the company. Shortly afterwards you will receive an e-mail confirming receipt of registration and explaining how to proceed.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE CAN I BOOK A CAR2GO VEHICLE?

You can book a car2go vehicle 15 minutes in advance here on the website or with the help of an smartphone application.

CAN I LEAVE A CAR2GO IN A PARKING SPOT DIFFERENT TO WHERE I PICKED IT UP?

You can return the vehicle to any parking space in the car2go operating area, provided it is not a resident’s parking area or a company parking lot.

CAN I DRIVE A CAR2GO TO A DIFFERENT COUNTRY?

Of course, you may also drive in other countries, but you cannot end the rental there. Please note, that the fueling cards are working in Germany only. If you want to fuel the car in a different country, you have to pay the fueling costs on your own and we are not able to refund.

DO I HAVE TO BE THE DRIVER OF THE CAR2GO I BOOKED?

Yes, the car2go may not be used by others. Otherwise, your insurance coverage will not be valid.

HOW DO I PAY?

If you are a private customer, invoice amounts will be deducted from your bank account. If you have permission from another car2go member, you can also drive on his or her account.

HOW DO I KEEP TRACK OF MY COSTS?

You can view all trips you took during the past month, including start and destination address, duration, distance and price, on the website www.car2go.com using your log-in in the “my car2go” section.

HOW DO I RECEIVE THE CAR2GO INVOICES?

Invoices for private customers are made available as downloadable PDFs in the internal area.
Business customers get their invoices sent to their postal address by mail.

HOW ARE CAR2GO VEHICLES INSURED?

Each car2go is covered by comprehensive insurance with a deductible sum of 500 euro. The cost of this insurance is included in the minute price of 26 cent.

WHEN DO I HAVE TO REFUEL THE VEHICLE?

You don’t have to refuel the car2go yourself. Our service team takes care of that. In case you need to refuel during a longer journey, you will find a prepaid fuel card in a special attachment in the glove compartment. This card can be used at any Shell gas station in Germany. If the car2go was running on empty by the time you start refueling, you will receive a credit on your customer account as a thank-you for your time (this is only valid once per rental).

WHICH GUIDELINES APPLY WHEN USING A CAR2GO?

  • Absolutely no alcohol (0.0 parts per thousand) and no drugs whatsoever while driving
  • Smoking is banned in the vehicles
  • Animals may not be transported
  • The vehicle must be looked after carefully
  • Objects and equipment may not be removed from the vehicle
  • Please report damage and lost property by writing an e-mail to or by coming by our car2go Shop at Liesegangstraße 13 in Düsseldorf.
  • Never entrust the car2go to others
  • No more than one passenger
  • Only use the vehicle for driving wherever possible
  • Ensure you use the legally stipulated equipment when carrying a child

HOW MUCH DOES CAR2GO COST?

car2go will impress you with its extremely attractive and simple price structure without basic monthly fees. You pay a one-time registration fee of only 9.90 euro to get your car2go membercard. Using a car2go costs 26 cent per minute and 12,90 euro per hour all-inclusive – which means all costs for fuel, parking and insurance and taxes are included. WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AMOUNT OF TIME I HAVE TO USE CAR2GO?

There is no minimum rental period stipulated.

DO I NEED TO DECIDE HOW LONG I WANT TO USE THE CAR2GO BEFORE EACH TRIP?

No, you can end your rental spontaneously at any time, remaining flexible and independent. This is providing that you are in the operating area.

CAN ANYONE USE A CAR2GO?

car2go is available for anybody who possesses a valid driver's license for more than one year.

WHAT OTHER CHARGES MAY BE INVOLVED IN CAR2GO?

  • Cancellation/expiry of a booking
  • Revalidation of a driver’s license / reapplication of a car2go membercard
  • Handling of damages you are responsible for
  • Traffic offenses and violations of the terms of use
  • Loss of fuel card, parking card, or ignition key
  • Leaving the vehicle extremely dirty
  • Calling the emergency telephone number using a landline or a mobile phone
